Hypericum perforatum is an old, aromatic herb classified in the family Hypericaceae. Other names for it include St John's wort, Tipton's weed, rosin rose, goatweed, chase-devil, or Klamath weed. The herb originates from Europe. Nowadays hypericum perforatum exists all over the world (mainly in the Unated States). It can be found in such places as river banks, meadows, road sides.

Hypericum perforatum is well known for its antiviral, demulcent and antibacterial properties. It is a valuable herb strengthening liver and gallbladder. The hypericum perforatum extract is suitable for  treatment of ulcers, gastritis and diarrhea, thus, it is administered to animals suffering from gastrointestinal disorders. Moreover, the herb is extremely useful to strengthen the immune system.

  • The Middle Ages people not only believed  in hypericum’s medical properties but also in its magical powers protecting against demons. They used the herb to protect pregnant women against evil spirits
  • The plants breed yellow flowers that seem to be in full bloom on 24th of June.  This is the date of St. John the Baptist birthday, thus the herb is also known under the name of St. John’s wort
